IPO

The Company was listed on Euronext on November 1987 after the issue of 12% of its capital to the public represented by 2.7 million shares and the Company’s market capitalization was worth 156 million euros.

1988 – 2021

Capital Increases and bond issuances

During more than 30 years of stock market listing, Mota Engil resorted to the capital markets to finance itself, through the execution of several Capital increases and Bond issuances.

2021-2022

Sustainability-linked bonds issuance

Mota-Engil has successfully completed two sustainability-linked bond issuances. In 2021 has raised a global amount of €110 million, with a maturity of 5 years and a fixed interest rate of 4.25%. In 2022 has raised a global amount of €70 million, with a maturity of 5 years and a fixed interest rate of 5.75%. The Company is committed to improve one KPI in order to reach a sustainability target as of 31 December 2025 and 2026 respectively; if these targets are not accomplished, the issuer commits to pay an additional €1.25 per bond until at the end of the periods.

Main reasons for the Capital increase in 2021

  • Allow new shareholders to enter the Company’s capital with the goal to seek out and develop opportunities for cooperation in construction and infrastructure management operations;
  • Strengthen Mota-Engil’s financial, technical and commercial capabilities with the objective of increasing its activities in all markets and opening new opportunities.

Main reasons for issuing sustainability Bonds

  • Raise funds to finance its current activity and international expansion
  • Pursue its strategy of increasing the average maturity of its debt, to better align it with the generation of cash flow
  • Substitute part of its debt with maturity in 2022 and/or 2023 for debt with capital repayments in 2025 and 2026
